1955 had two Royal Variety Performances, the first of which was staged outside the capital for the very first time at the Opera House in Blackpool. The show featured many acts familiar to Blackpool audiences, with highlights including, Reginald Dixon, Jimmy Jewel & Ben Warriss, George Formby, Arthur Askey and a couple of young comedians by the name of Morecambe & Wise.
